Elizabeth Blackadder

 

Elizabeth Blackadder is one of the best known and respected contemporary artists today. She studied and taught at the Edinburgh College of Art and is an elected member of the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy - the first woman to become a member of both. She has held numerous one-man exhibitions and her paintings are in collections throughout the world.

In this film we see Elizabeth working in her studios in Edinburgh on a series of paintings that illustrate her intuitive approach to her subjects, her originality and her acute sense of composition. Firstly she paints a large watercolour of tulips and irises. This is followed by paintings of buildings in Bologna and more flowers in a vase, both painted in oils. In addition, we see her working on a Japanese scroll and gain an insight into the Japanese influence on her work. Throughout the world.
